Engineering mathematics 2

Unit Information This is the second of the two units that cover the basic mathematics requirements of engineering degree programmes. It comprises four elements: Vector Calculus, Applied Statistics, and Linear Systems & Partial Differential Equations. Unit aims: To enhance and develop the student's understanding of and ability to use the language of mathematics in engineering problems. Your learning on this unit On successful completion of this unit, students will: understand basic principles of vector calculus be able to apply vector calculus methods to problems in engineering understand and apply transform methods to engineering problems be able to classify simple partial differential equations, and understand the different qualitative behaviour of their solutions be able to apply elementary techniques to solve simple partial differential equations appreciate the importance of the real world of applied statistics be able to formulate hypothesis tests, and understand their use for making inferences and obtaining confidence intervals, use applied statistics techniques such as goodness of fit, correlation and regression for simple data and models
