"The course aims to provide a phenomenological and modeling approach to natural hazards of hydraulic origin affecting mountain areas, such as intense solid transport phenomena, debris flows and snow avalanches. It also intends to train the students in the use of advanced numerical modeling tools for back analysis, hazard mapping and design of protection plans, as well as to provide calculation techniques and tools for designing mitigation works. The course is completed by some hints on civil protection topics." . . "Presential"@en . "TRUE" . . "Master in Environmental Engineering"@en . . "The learning path is built by intermeshing traditional disciplines (hydraulics, hydrology, sanitary engineering, structural and geotechnical engineering, spatial planning) with emerging environmental issues and problem-solving skills.\nThe final aim of the programme is to acquire competences for the design of\n• structures and infrastructures for land protection and water resources management\n• technologies for the management and remediation of environmental matrices (air, soil, and water)\n• sustainable actions, also in the case of conflicting use of environmental resources\nand for the understanding of the processes that govern the interactions between the natural and built environment, even considering the effects of climate change. Particular emphasis is devoted to the awareness in using mathematical models and to the critical interpretation of the results of numerical simulations To achieve these goals, most of the courses include not only theoretical lessons, but also laboratory activities, practical exercises using technical software, and field visits. Master's degree theses address both innovative problems and applications to case studies, and are often carried out in the context of research projects or in collaboration with companies and institutions, in Italy and abroad.\n\nThe international character, thanks to the introduction of courses in English in the first year and in two of the curricula starting from the academic year 2021/22, will allow all students to be in contact, in a daily discussion, with colleagues with different experiences and backgrounds. Together with a teaching organization that fosters teamwork, students will develop the soft skills and global competences (open-mindedness, flexibility, empathy, communication skills, unconventional problem solving, conflict management) that the job market increasingly requires, also for technical jobs such as that of the engineer."@en . . . .
