Interaction of radiation and matter

Learning outcomes of the course unit: Student gains knowledge about influence of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation on a matter. Furthermore, student will know the principles of various types of radiation detection which are widely present in a space. Important part of the knowledge is basic construction and principles of detectors which are used for various types of radiation detection. Graduate will be able to consider the influence of various radiation types on elements and systems exploited in outer space. Course Contents: Non-ionizing radiation and matter interaction. Ionizing radiation and matter interaction. Destructive and non destructive influence of radiation on matter. Principles of various types of radiation detection. Construction and principles of non-ionizing radiation detectors. Construction and principles of ionizing radiation detectors. Protection of constructions and systems from dangerous radiation.
